We serve clients across the GTHA
ACCESS Community Capital Fund (ACCESS) is recruiting volunteers to assist our clients with business coaching.
ACCESS is a registered charitable organization that helps people facing financial barriers in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) to obtain low-interest loans of up to $5,000 for small business and professional development. We use a micro-finance, social impact approach. Applicant loans are evaluated using a character-based lending model. Our clients encompass under-served and marginalized communities such as visible minorities, newcomers, women and others that face barriers to realizing their goals of meaningful employment.
The Business Coach Opportunity
ACCESS business coaches play an important role in supporting ACCESS clients. They review business plans, help clients to improve their business skills and financial management practices, provide a sounding board, encourage and celebrate a client’s successes.
Business coaches assist clients from the very early stages of their business planning through to the implementation of a new business. They also provide guidance as clients develop and grow their business. The role is both rewarding and challenging as some clients may require a significant amount of guidance.
There are two streams to the coaching support.
Generalist: advise clients with a range of business related activities for up to 6 months
Specialist: meet with clients for a few sessions to provide input on specific areas of expertise like marketing, sales, retail and social meeting.
What you bring to the Role
As a business coach, you will offer a unique set of business/financial related skills, strong problem solving abilities, creativity and an interest in helping an entrepreneur achieve their goals. You have strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills. You are a good listener, patient and client centric. You are open minded and bring a comfort level and/or experience working with diverse cultural and socio-economic communities.
A minimum 6 months commitment is required. Business Coaches meet with clients on an agreed upon schedule. Based on client goals, meetings may be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly during the coaching period. Flexibility is built into the program to accommodate the schedules and availability of both the coach and client.
Virtual meetings (e.g. via Google Hangout, Zoom, Skype, Facetime, etc.) can be integrated into the ongoing meeting schedule, however some in person meetings with the client and/or on-site meetings at the clients business are encouraged.
ACCESS serves clients across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area. Coaches may be assigned a client whose business is anywhere within this region. Wherever possible this will be considered during the matching process.
