Unisphere Canada (UC) is a newly established non-profit organization. Our primary goal is to facilitate economic opportunities and promote income generation through entrepreneurship and innovation, for vulnerable groups of Ontario residents who are often excluded from the mainstream economy. Building on the strengths of our community members' experience, we will support their dreams to become economically resilient through the establishment of new community businesses.
We are a group of volunteers with diverse backgrounds, extensive local and international experience in the fields of social and economic development, poverty reduction, capacity building and more. We are passionate about building welcoming, resilient communities free of poverty and inequality.
Unisphere Canada strongly believes in action and seeks to transform communities across Ontario and Canada, making them self-sufficient through sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation programs.
We work with volunteers and marginalized people in low-income communities who currently live in poverty. Unisphere Canada is determined to bring changein low communities by mobilizing the power of people, empowering and providing support to entrepreneurs to act against poverty.
Unisphere Canada works to find practical, innovative ways, for people to lift themselves out of poverty and thrive. We save lives and help marginalized and poor people who are coping/struggling with livelihoods. We work directly with low-income communities, and we seek to identifies those people living in poverty and providing technical, financial support and improve their lives and livelihoods.
In all we do, Unisphere Canada works with partner organizations and alongside vulnerable Youth, women and men to reduce the injustices that cause poverty.
We believe that together, we can bring change and the change we hope to achieve is to contribute to creating a fair world, free of poverty and injustice. A fair world that respects the basic rights of all human beings.
Main purpose of the role
The social media and website volunteer will maintain and update social media and implement the organization's strategy to increase public awareness about Unisphere Canada services. The social media and website volunteer will directly contribute to Unisphere Canada by increasing public awareness about our innovative saving box model and other services. The role is very much about updating the website, writing a small blog and developing social media content (WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, andLinkedIn). The Social Media and Website volunteer will be working alongside the program manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
The role would suit a new graduate from a marketing course or a more experienced marketer who is looking to gain experience in a new field.
This role would suit someone who:
Has some experience of marketing and social media, either through education, work or volunteering;
Is familiar with using social media and other online tools to generate interest in a business or project;
Is an excellent communicator and familiar with WordPress;
Is able to write clearly, accurately and concisely;
Can develop a social media strategy to support the organization’s outreach and fundraising activities, and establish targets for increasing online presence;
Is able to post regular updates to Unisphere Canadas’ social media outlets, including articles, blog posts, and any other promotional items;
Is able to monitor activity and user interactions for all social media outlets;
Can increase the number of people following our organisations posts on our website, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube sites
Experience using key social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and YouTube);
Strong writing and editing skills, with strong attention to detail;
Ability to use online tools to engage members, donors, and corporate partners;
Outgoing, enthusiastic and creative;
Works well independently and as part of a team
This position requires a minimum 4-month commitment for 1-2 days per week for an average of 10-14 hours per week, which can be completed in the office (200 Wellesley St. East) or at home.
